Martin Green
Martin Green is more than the main character of the production "Black-Faced Lye." Martin's story began before he was attacked with lye and acid on September 9, 1980. His story involves more than his brother, Calvin, and his sisters, Gwen and Miriam. The Scars of Martin Green: Face the Consequences was the original project name. A book, a podcast and films were conceived. And then Martin's stories fell apart. Here you will take a wild journey with Ulysses as he tries to explain what the hell happened to Martin Green.
Podcast Prologue
(This is the original prologue to the podcast we call The Scars of Martin Green: Face The Consequences. Below you can listen to a draft of Episode One featuring Lisa Reich and Adam Lebow) Martin Green’s face is an explosion of black and blue, blisters, burns and bruises. His face is a catastrophe of cuts, scars and deformities that overlap, criss-cross and twist and tangle the tissue underneath his skin. His face is the reason for this story. Without the deeply devastating damage to his face, Martin would probably be just another basic Black man battling systemic racism, social stereotypes and pervasive poverty. Without his wickedly wounded face, no one would probably even care what Martin has to say. Because, without this face, there would be a different story. Without this face, there would be a different Martin Green.
