Journey into justice
Ulysses “Butch” Slaughter, Jr. is a passionate writer, filmmaker and producer from Chicago, Illinois. At age 12, he witnessed his mother's murder by his father, becoming the state's key witness. He later attended Quigley Seminary, shaping his spiritual and existential views. In 2005, he wrote "Dear Daddy, I hate you," and produced the short film "To Hate," reflecting on the domestic violence that led to his mother's death. After reconnecting with his father in 2010, he documented their journey in "Odyssey To Save Ulysses." He created and hosted "Reconciled" for the Oprah Winfrey Network in 2011. He founded The OneTaste Orgasmic Meditation Reconciliation Council. Ulysses led the 2018 Philadelphia MOVE reconciliation campaign and produced the podcast "Re-member MOVE." A 2013 recipient of The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award, he graduated from Lincoln University and is a US Navy veteran residing in Media, Pennsylvania.
It all began with my parents, Clarice and Ulysses Sr. Their relationship set the stage on which I now stand. Maybe the whole thing was God's plan. Or maybe it's been a series of sloppy coincidences. Either way, I came from my parents. From them to The MOVE Bombing. From them to Martin Green, OneTaste, Malachi and Miriam. From them to Alexander McClay Williams and A Super Fly Redemption. Thank God for Clarice and Ulysses. They showed me how to both navigate and curate chaos.
